Project Description

Refurbishment and transformation of an existing 1960’s residential bungalow, formerly owned by the agent of George Michael. The project was to transform the existing property, which had the appearance of a bungalow at the entrance level and stepped down the hill to form a two storey property from the rear, into a modern, open plan dwelling with far reaching views over the Mendip countryside. An additional storey was added perpendicular to the existing to create a front-to-back master suite with incredible views. This, in turn, created a large gable forming the new entrance to the property with a picture window internally capturing the view beyond like a landscape painting.

A mix of local materials was selected to ensure the transformation remained within the character of the conservation area, taking a modern twist using traditional materials such as stone and wood. Streaks of modern were then included in less prominent areas of the build such as white render and the internal finishes. This project benefitted hugely from 3D and VR graphics, allowing the clients to walk around the proposed building and experience changes before starting on site. Both clients were amazed at the effectiveness of this and the process informed further design decisions as we moved forward.
